Robben Island & Table Mountain Tour
Table Mountain has made it into the final round of
the New 7 Wonders of Nature contest. The top 28 wonders from
around the world were announced on Tuesday July 21, 2009 by the New7Wonders
Foundation in Zurich, Switzerland. Table Mountain must now compete for a
place among the top 7 wonders to be announced in 2011.
Visit the mountain with your Sea More-Express
Tour Guide, and experience for yourself why it is called a natural
wonder of the earth.
The other half of the day includes an inspiring
journey to Robben Island.
“During the many years
of incarceration on Robben Island, we
often looked across
Table Mountain at its magnificent silhouette…
To us on Robben Island,
Table Mountain was a beacon of hope. It
represented the mainland
to which we knew we would one day return.”
– Nelson Mandela
From the 17th to the 20th centuries, Robben Island served as a
place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment. Today it is a World
Heritage Site and museum, a poignant reminder to the newly democratic
South Africa of the price paid for freedom.
The Robben Island tour
includes a return trip across Table Bay, a visit to the Maximum
Security Prison, and a bus tour of the Island.
Depending on the weather as well as the sea conditions,
it will be done either in the morning or in the
afternoon, and Table Mountain the other half
of the day.
Robben Island Ferries
depart at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm, weather permitting, from Nelson
Mandela Gateway, at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
