So what are you looking for in a church? Soul-stirring music? Guitars? No guitars? Drums?!! Contemporary or Traditional? Perhaps you are looking for a church where the people are at the same place in life as you are. People who will love and understand you. Maybe the most important thing is to find a church were you can get involved - places to serve, places to do good to. You want a church strong on evangelism or strong on social action. You want a church that can provide a ministry to your children. But you may want a church that practices the gifts of the Holy Spirit and is pulsing with the Spirit of God. What are you looking for? Big? Small? Trendy? Exciting? Well, what should a church be like? Amidst all these questions, let us look at some crucial features of what a church should be like:
The church is a gathering of people - not a building, not a pastor, not the music or services but a people.
The church is a gathering of converted people - not nice people nor familial people nor of a certain class or race.
The church is a gathering of converted people loving Jesus Christ - He is the foundation and capstone.
The church is a gathering of converted people loving Jesus Christ by the Word of God - the Word is central.
The church is a gathering of converted people worshipping Jesus Christ by the Word of God and in the Spirit of God - God Himself at work in our midst.
Don’t let the non-essentials determine where you worship. Join a church that keeps the main thing the main thing.
