Here are 3 ways to create energy in a thriving environment where team members do more than their job descriptions require: 1. Focus on a task When team members focus on a task and on meeting their responsibilities, they become absorbed with that task. This creates energy which leads to accomplishment and success. As a manager it is your responsibility to allocate tasks fairly, and to monitor progress made by each team member, offering support and help where needed. 2. Explore Team members need to explore, experiment, take risks and be involved with innovation, discovery and growth. In a positive environment team members will be more inclined to want to improve themselves and learn in the process. As a manager it is your responsibility to create stimulating experiences through interaction with others. This will lead to positive energy where team members feel more responsible and challenged. 3. Be in the moment To be in the moment starts with listening to others, to their views and to their side of the story. In order to do this, you have to truly open yourself to what the other person is saying. When you don’t really listen or you show impatience through your body language, you are in a way saying: • I don’t care about you • I don’t understand you • You’re wrong • You are wasting my time As a manager you have to be able to really pay attention in order to build a relationship of trust.
