A scenic 2 day, 1 night Circular Trek in the Southern Drakensberg and the Lesotho Highland Escarpment incorporating the summit of the highest point in the Southern Africa: Thabana Ntlenyana stands 3482m on the Lesotho side of the Drakensberg.
Meet in Underberg at 08h00 travel up the daunting Sani Pass by 4x4 gaining an awesome 1300m over 22km. Pass through the South Africa border post and enter the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.
Leaving the Sani Pass area GoVertical will guide you out along the Sani River contouring around the ridges and onto the Manaung River. We ascend to ka-Ntuba Pass along the Drakensberg escarpment and follow a scenic route to Nhlangeni pass where we’ll set up camp, with views down dramatic cliffs and over the spectacular Mkhomazi Wilderness area. Distance; approximately 16km Altitude gain about 400m.
After breakfast there is a further 200m of altitude to ascend to gain the highest point in Southern Africa, Thabana Ntlenyana. 3482m with it’s commanding views of the Drakensberg escarpment and the Lesotho Highlands. We return on a path that takes us across the Sehonghong and Mangaung Rivers back to Sani Pass and South Africa’s highest Pub! Distance approximately 16km. Descend Sani pass by 4x4 arriving in Underberg in the late afternoon.
