Henton was the First RYA Instructor and Examiner in South Africa and was well known for years of Service as
Royal Cape Yacht Club's Safety Officer and for his Comprehensive Handbook covering Competent Crew through to
Yachtmaster Ocean. Henton remains a Consultant and we continue his traditions of Excellence in Sail Training.
Yachtmaster Sailing School is privileged to be able to offer our Shore Based Theory Classes at
South Africa's Premier Yacht Club, the Royal Cape Yacht Club, Cape Town.
Our Practical Courses are run from Club Mykonos, Langebaan which is 150km North of Cape Town and Situated on
Saldanha Bay and the Langebaan Lagoon.
This is the best area in South Africa for Sail Training and is the only area in South Africa approved by the RYA for
conducting it's Examinations. Saldanha Bay offers all the training challenges and opportunities that the Solent offers.
The Port of Saldanha is a busy Ore Export Hub with Giant Bulk Carriers loading Iron Ore and Steel Products.
A busy fishing fleet provides plenty of Traffic for training and buoys and lighthouses are abundant.
In contrast to this the Langebaan Lagoon provides calm pristine waters with strong tides and narrow channels for Pilotage Training.
Outside the Bay Heads the Stark and Beautiful Granite studded West Coast provides navigation and pilotage challenges.
Dolphins, seals and seabirds of all species abound together with many whales in the winter.
Occasional Orcas are seen by the Lucky
Our maximum is 5 students and minimum of 3 for each practical course which ensures that each student gets the individual attention needed, while also making sure that there are sufficient numbers to crew the yacht.
