The Nedbank Sandwich Jam, held on the bank's annual Deep Green Day, was a nationwide initiative involving personnel in 16 locations preparing sandwiches. FoodBank then distributed these sandwiches and additional bread to grateful agencies across South Africa. Nedbank also generously donated sufficient money to cover FoodBank's delivery costs. This ensured that the event was a major "win" for South Africa's hungry without undermining the funds available for FoodBank's on-going food rescue program.

Lynn Witten from FoodBank comments, “FoodBank South Africa is the simple green solution to sourcing, collecting and redistributing rescued food. Moreover, the support provided by FoodBank is highly cost effective: the average cost per meal donated for the past year was just R1,68.

The Nedbank Sandwich Jam entailed the timely purchase and delivery of large volumes of ingredients and a myriad of supporting equipment such as hair nets and aprons to multiple Nedbank locations in three cities. It included the preparation of huge volumes of sandwiches by thousands of Nedbank employees on the day itself. Finally,  FoodBank had to plan to use multiple trucks to collect the sandwiches and deliver them to multiple agencies, all within a 24 hour period to ensure the freshness of the sandwiches.

On behalf of the hungry of South Africa, FoodBank extends a huge thank you to Nedbank and its staff for their generosity and hard work in making this event a resounding success.
