Portillo Malbec 2009 (Argentina)
Ruby-red wine with very intense purplish tints, displaying a fresh and fruity nose, enhanced by hints of plums, black berries and a touch of vanilla. Fresh fruit flavours, supported by sweet and round tannins, and good structure contributed by oak. Long and fruity finish.

Pimpala Road Shiraz 2008 (Australia)
This wine shows aromas and flavours of blackcurrant and spice with a fleshy medium weight palate and hints of dark chocolate on the finish.

Diamond Ridge Sauvignon Blanc 2009 (New Zealand)
Aromas of bright tropical fruits showing passion fruit with a touch of nettle and pear. On the palate a stylish combination of passion fruit, rich pear thus making it luscious, delicious and rather refreshing.

Torresella Vereto Pinot Grigio 2010 (Italy)
A dry white wine with a straw yellow hue. It stands out for its finesse and its persistence on the nose and palate; it is elegant and well-balanced, with just a hint of aromatic fruitiness.

Les Garriques Classic Merlot 2009 (France)
A beautiful garnet red colour, this wine with notes of red fruit and spice is revealed on the palate, round and generous with a harmonious finish.

Vriesenhof Chardonnay 2010 (Jan Boland Coetzee)
This elegant wine has a smooth and slightly creamy mouth feel and a complexity of fruit that lingers on the crisp finish.

Jan may have an imposing physique and reputation – he started out at Kanonkop in 1968 and has 48 vintages under his belt – but his soul is that of a soft natured, humble and philosophical man of nature. A cool ale while tending the fire, chased with a glass of refreshing white wine, before rounding the evening off with a serious glass of red to compliment a perfectly seared cut of red meat.
