Reinvent Lighting

The quest to reduce our carbon footprint and the resulting increase in market demands for energy-efficiency is driving a revolution in lighting. Due to their power savings, aesthetics and eco-friendliness, LEDs are the preferred light source for the next-generation of fixtures in architectural, retail, commercial, and residential lighting applications.

Pentelic lighting solutions include of a broad portfolio of patented optical technologies and system-level support for optical design, thermal management, power delivery and manufacturing to enable a new generation of high-efficiency lighting fixtures with precise ray angle control and the ultimate freedom of design. With the combination of Rambus’ world-class intellectual property and design support for complete, customizable, light fixtures, Pentelic solutions deliver the maximum amount of light precisely where it is desired.

More Light Where You Want It

Luminous efficacy, measured in lumens per watt (lm/W), is an important metric when determining the efficiency of a light fixture, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. In order to truly maximize the amount of light delivered to a desired area with the least amount of energy required, designers must focus on the application efficiency of the fixture. Application efficiency is the percentage of light delivered to the targeted area as it relates to the total light output of the fixture. In order to achieve high application efficiency, a fixture must combine high luminous efficacy with the ability to direct as much of the emitted light to the desired surface, or area, as possible.

By providing 92 to 95% optical efficiency and precise ray angle control, Pentelic solutions enable edge-lit LED light fixtures with the highest application efficiency. Through the use of flexible edge-lit technology, Pentelic solutions offer unparalleled freedom of design ushering in a new era of cost-effective, highly-efficient, and beautiful lighting.

These same innovations enable Rambus' solutions for LED edge-lit backlights in LCD displays, next-generation displays and input devices for computing and consumer electronics products.

Pentelic lighting solutions are based on Rambus’ portfolio of patented innovations including:

  • MicroLens® optics – light distribution features that provide customizable control of uniformity and ray angle for superior application efficiency;
  • TruEdge™ technology – LED-to-light guide coupling technology which maximizes the amount of light injected the light guide;
  • SolidCore™ reflectors – compact reflectors capable of producing tightly controlled, efficient and high-intensity beams ideal for spotlights;
  • VirtuOptic™ reflectors – optics that produce a highly collimated, highly efficient light output while delivering precise ray angle control.
