Giraffe House is a relatively new centre providing easy access to some of our wonderful wildlife and bird species. Focusing mainly on African wildlife, Giraffe House aims to provide a place for people to enjoy a family picnic in the fresh air, whilst experiencing and learning about animals and conservation with Education being their primary focus.

Although it was a bit rainy and cold the day of the visit, all soon warmed up in the lapa where the children were treated to a fun filled talk by Werner and were able to touch and hold an array of interesting creatures. The children learnt so much about various animals ranging from the amazing african bullfrog, kalahari padloper (the smallest tortoise in africa) to being introduced and allowed to touch and hold various snakes such as the olive house snake, american corn snake with Werner and then Jacques introduced them to a puffadder, cape cobra, egg-eater and a boa constrictor!  The kids (and moms) asked so many questions and knew many of the answers to interesting questions Werner asked of them…the moms in attendance were suitably impressed by their own teachers! The interesting morning culminated in a walkabout to visit amongst others the giraffe, a Burchell zebra, blue and demoiselle cranes(from north Africa). At present they have some pretty special animals! There is the smallest antelope in the world, the blue duiker as well as the largest antelope in the world, the eland, also the tallest animal in the world – the giraffe – as well as the largest and meanest reptile in Africa, the Nile crocodile.
