Pool Essentials - Pool Pumps

What does your pool pump do? The pool pump is the heart of the pool system as it is a key component of the filtration process.

How The Pool Pump Works

The pool pump draws water from your pool into the skimmer box, where it’s passed through a fine strainer basket the hair and lint pot and onto the impeller. The water is then returned to the pool by the pool return lines.

Choosing The Right Pool Pump

It’s important to size your pool pump correctly. This will ensure that your pool runs at an optimum level, resulting in fewer problems, easier maintenance, lower energy costs and longer equipment life.

There are 4 questions you need to answer before speaking to your pool professional to enable them to recommend a pool pump suitable for your needs:

What’s the Total Pool Volume? Calculate, in metres (Width x Length x Average Depth) x 1000.

How often do you want to circulate the water - every 4 or 8 hours?

Will you be using any water features or in-floor cleaning systems?

What is the distance from the pool to where the pool pump will be located?

If you are building a new pool your builder will ensure that your pump and filter are correctly matched for optimum performance.

Pool Pump Maintenance

The hair and lint pot needs to be emptied and cleaned on a regular basis throughout the swimming season. If it’s allowed to clog up and block the water flow, the seals will crack and the motor burn out.

Adding a small amount of aluminum sulfate or "alum", through the skimmer will form a gelatinous layer on top of the sand bed, useful in cleaning up an undesirable water condition. Pool Essentials - Salt Water Chlorinators

The Salt Cell is simply fitted to the plumbing of your pool between the filter and water outlet and the Control Unit is mounted adjacent to the Cell for easy monitoring and control of your pool's hygiene. Daily operation of the chlorination and filtration system will vary during unusually hot periods or heavy bather loads requiring longer running of the system.
