initial consultation

Prior to your first visit at our rooms, one of our receptionists will answer any questions you may have regarding our practice and help you schedule your appointment with both the dental surgeon and the oral hygienist.Upon your first visit, you will be greeted by our reception staff, who, in turn will inform the relevant team member that you have arrived. We will do our best to make your wait as short as possible. One of the dentists will then perform a full mouth oral examination which may include a head and neck examination, cancer screening, full mouth digital radiography with 3D scanning if required, clinical photographs, study models, periodontal screening and caries detection. If you have scheduled your hygiene appointment on the same day it will follow directly after your consultation. Your hygienist will perform a scaling and debridement of your teeth and gum tissue as well as a full mouth polishing . Your oral hygiene program will be tailored to your specific needs and any guidance and instructions that you might need will be also be outlined.Complex cases will require a second visit at which we will present your treatment plan for your specific case with the different treatment options together with the estimated costs for the treatment. From there our reception staff will then co-ordinate your appointments and answer any questions you may have regarding payment options.
3d Imaging

3d imaging

We are proud to be the first dental practices in SA to own the new Orthophos XG 3D digital x-ray unit from Sirona. It utilizes the latest 3D imaging technology and thereby has a relatively low radiation dose compared with your traditional CT scans, but has just the same image detail allowing for enhanced diagnosis, improved planning and increased predictability. Utilizing the digital images, we are able to create a 3D facial mask showing the teeth, jaws and other facial structures. This will assist us in creating a accurate treatment plan for cosmetic, implant and oral surgery cases. Due to the ability of the Orthophos XG to communicate with the Cerec CAD CAM unit it allows for simultaneous prosthetic and surgical implant planning.
restorative dentistry

restorative dentistry

white fillingsWhite fillings involve the repair of tooth structure by placing restorative materials into decayed or broken areas of teeth with resin bonding. The process allows for the tooth to be restored in a more conservative manner. These are normally done by using a very specific tooth coloured, resin based material. It will look exactly like your tooth, making it impossible to identify where the filling is. These fillings do not contain any toxic substance.bondingDental bonding is a technique used in which the restoration, whether it is resin, porcelain or in some cases metals, are bonded to the tooth structure by means of bonding resins.inlays and onlaysInlays and onlays are ceramic tooth coloured restorations manufactured outside of the mouth and then bonded onto the tooth structure. This is often done using the Cerec CAD CAM technology. It is a technique used when the tooth needs to be strengthened due to a large cavity or when part of the tooth has fractured . It is a long term aesthetic method of restoring a tooth. crownsA dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth, covering the residual tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and to improve its appearance. A crown place fully encase the entire visible portion of the tooth that lies above the gum line. Crowns become necessary when there is insufficient tooth structure to support a filling. The shade is customized to match your own teeth so that in your mouth it will look natural.bridgesA bridge works like a series of connected crowns, replacing missing teeth by bridging the gap and using the surrounding teeth as abutments. Once perma-nently cemented in your mouth, bridgework will look, feel and function the same as your natural teeth, giving you years of comfort, stability and aesthetics.root canal treatmentsRoot canal treatment (also known as endodontic therapy) aims to clean, shape and fill the entire root canal of a tooth removing the dead or infected nerve . A root canal treatment will treat , or if performed early enough, prevent the formation of an abscess on the tooth. A tooth which has had RCT will be weaker then the other teeth and so we often recommend a crown to prevent it from fracturing. denturesDentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, which are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Conventional dentures are removable, but there are many different denture designs, some which rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or dental implants.
cosmetic dentistry

cosmetic dentistry

teeth whiteningTeeth whitening is a common procedure in general dentistry. As a person ages, the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth. Teeth can also be stained by foods, tobacco, certain antibiotics and bacterial pigments. We offer both in-surgery whitening and a home whitening kitIn-surgery Whitening is an hour procedure with preparations that are safe and effective. In the procedure the stains are oxidized from the tooth structure .Various protective barriers will be placed over your eyes, cheeks , lips and gums. Then the active gel will be coated over the teeth and left in place for 20 minutes, repeated three times. The home whitening kit contains soft plastic trays fabricated to fit over your teeth very precisely together with the gel syringes. The trays will be filled with a small amount of gel and then worn each night for approximately ten nights depending on the result you require. There are various concentrations of gel which will determine how long you will keep the trays in your mouth each night, ranging from thirty minutes to four hours. In some cases we may choose to make use of both the home kit and the in-chair system using the advantages of both to obtain the best possible result. dental veneersA veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over an existing tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface. Two main types of material are used to fabricate a veneer composite and dental porcelain.Veneers may be used to restore a single tooth that may have been fractured or discoloured, or multiple teeth to create a beautiful smile. Some people have worn away the edges of their teeth resulting in a prematurely aged appearance, while others may have malpositioned teeth that appear crooked. Multiple veneers close these spaces, lengthen teeth, provide a uniform colour, shape, and symmetry, and make teeth appear straight.aesthetic contouringA quick and easy way to reshape your teeth, cosmetic contouring works well to smooth minor chips, reshape pointy teeth or redefine teeth. The teeth are reshaped to make them look natural and more attractive. They are then polished to their original luster.cosmetic gum surgery A perfect smile is not only dependant on straight white teeth. The gum plays a very important part in creating a perfect and balanced smile. In some cases of smile correction you will need to have minor gum surgery so that the left and right sides look balanced and uniform. It may involve the removal of gum in some instances (Gingivectomy, Crown Lengthening) and the addition of gum in others (Gum graft).
cerec CAD CAM

cerec CAD CAM

The term CEREC is derived from CEramic REConstruction; meaning, the replacement of missing tooth structure with ceramic material. The CEREC system comprises a computer-controlled milling machine designed specifically for dentistry. A high-resolution scanner captures an image of the prepared tooth and then the chair side computer is used to design a unique restoration immediately, which is then milled and fitted at the same appointment. Previously, most complex procedures required several visits to complete. This new technology allows the clinician to place non-metallic, tooth-coloured restorations made of high quality, durable, ceramic materials providing our patients with beautiful aesthetic restorations in one appointment. One of the main benefits of this procedure is that it lasts much longer than conventional resin restorations.
implantology

implantology

dental implantsDental implants are used to replace a tooth or teeth. A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone to replace the root of a tooth. After a suitable osseointegration period between the implant and the bone ( 1 -6 months) an implant crown together with an abutment is placed onto the implant screw, mimicking the appearance of a natural tooth .Unlike many other dental restorations, an implant is an independent unit and does not depend on any of your natural teeth for support. Implants are very predictable with a 95% success rate and a very good long term prognosis. They will improve both function and aesthetics restoring your confidence for life.
periodontology

periodontology

periodontitisThis is the part of dentistry that deals with the treatment of the supporting structures of the teeth, that is the gingiva, bone, tongue and cheeks. Periodontitis is an infection of the gingiva and bone around the teeth causing irreversible damage to these structures. It is normally a painless infection progressing without any initial symptoms. It is treated by removing the infection with root planning or periodontal open flap surgery. Sometimes a course of antibiotics will also be needed.
orthodontics

orthodontics

Orthodontic treatments focus on dental displacement and malocclusions as well as the control and modification of facial growth. Orthodontic treatment can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of your teeth. Treatment is also often prescribed for practical reasons such as providing the patient with a functionally improved bite. There are various treatment modalities including metal braces, ceramic(tooth cloured) braces as well as lingual braces. Lingual braces are placed on the inside surface of the teeth making them invisible from the outside. Recently Invisalign has been introduced which is a clear removable plate which is able to move teeth in a similar way to conventional braces.
oral surgery

oral surgery

Oral Surgery is the specialty of dentistry that includes the diagnosis, surgical and related treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the head, mouth, teeth, gums, jaws and neck.
nervous patients

nervous patients

Oral sedationWe provide the patient with a sedative tablet, taken thirty minutes before the procedure at the practice. This will help you relax during the dental procedure. You will need someone to drive you home Intra-venous sedationIf you are extremely nervous or if you need to have a major surgical procedure done an anesthetist will provide you with intravenous sedation. A sedative drug is injected into your arm. This will make you feel very relaxed and sleepy. Please note it is NOT a general anesthetic. You will however feel very sleepy after the treatment and will need someone to drive you home. Should general anesthetic be required, the necessary arrangements will be made for the procedure to be carried out in one of the surrounding hospitals.
wisdom teeth

wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth often need to be removed in order to prevent pain, infection, caries formation and anterior crowding. This can be done in theater under general anaesthetic or in the dental chair with or without sedation depending on the case. 3D imaging helps us to access the case accurately prior to their removal.
