PRISM is a unique product in a unique industry.
Member utility companies are given absolute control to create
their notification databases. Using any common paper map,
they draw the boundaries of their service area. The resulting
"polygon" is then digitized and installed as a database
"layer" in the call center's computer.
When processing a locate request, call center staff access
a digital base map to identify the excavation site. PRISM
automatically identifies and creates a “locate”
polygon or a customer service representative uses a mouse
to draw a unique polygon on the base map around the site.
PRISM then performs an immediate comparison between the notification
databases and the excavation polygon. The completed ticket
is prepared for transmission and delivered automatically to
only the affected member companies.
