I am often astounded by how little people think. It amazes me that some people seem to go through life simply “being”, never planning or analysing the way forward. I received a fantastic example of the differences between thinkers & doers, explained below for your consideration:
After graduation Fred and Mike joined a wholesale company together. Both worked very hard.
After a number of years, the boss promoted Fred to sales executive but Mike remained a sales rep. One day Mike could not take it anymore, handed in his resignation complained the boss did not value hard working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.
The boss knew that Mike had worked hard, but in order to help Mike realise the difference between him and Fred, the boss asked Mike to do one last task before he left the company.
He asked him to go to the market and find out if anyone was selling watermelons. Mike returned and informed his boss he had found a vendor selling watermelons. The boss asked how much per kilogram. Mike went back to the market to ask and returned to inform boss the R12 per kg.
The lesson here?
The boss then told Mike - he would require Fred to undertake the same task. Fred went to the market & upon his return stated that there was only one person selling watermelons at the market. The price was R12 per kg, R100 for 10 kg, the vendor has an inventory of 340 melons. There were 58 watermelons on display, each one weighs approximately 2 kilogrammes, they were brought in from the farm South two days ago, they are fresh and red, good quality.
The lesson here? I guess the following could be ascertained:
A successful person is more observant, thinks more and understands in depth.
In the same vein, a successful person sees many years ahead, while others see only tomorrow. The difference between a year and a day is 365 times.
Think! How far ahead have you seen your life?
How deep and analytical is your thought process?
