SA Cheese Festival 2011 (Sandringham, Stellenbosch)
Community Building Workshop run on 24 & 25 February 2011 at the Schoenstatt Retreat House & Training Centre, Constantia by Symphonia for South Africa - based on the material contained in Peter Block’s two latest books: “Community: The Structure of Belonging” and “Abundant Community”.
Facilitated by Symphonia’s Dr Louise van Rhyn, the workshop was about the nature of real transformation and what kind of leadership is required to achieve it.
Delegates discovered how communal transformation is about leadership that is independent of style, about role-modelling and about holding people accountable.
Phoenix Burns Project (November 2010) – High Tea Fundraiser
(view from the Ballroom balcony of the One & Only Hotel):-
The Phoenix Burns Project is a Cape Town-based charity that addresses the devastating physical and social consequences of burn injuries on children in the Western Cape. The organisation has a number of programmes in fire safety and burn prevention, support for families affected by shack fires, rehabilitation and reintegration of burn survivors.
also in 2010 we paid a visit to St. Andrew’s Church in Steenberg to attend one of the services during which certificates were handed to those who did the Banking on our Future programme run in co-operation with the Anglican Youth Southern Africa (), St. Cyprian’s Church and the US-based organisation, Operation Hope ()

I spent a lovely afternoon at the Age-in-Action () offices in the City centre as part of the judging panel for the national finals of the 2010 Pretty Things for Little Things competition; we ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ over the many beautifully made/crafted toys, clothing and blankets put together with such love and care by our wonderful senior citizens from around the country – the most difficult part of our task being to choose 1st, 2nd & 3rd places, as ALL the items were worthy of being nominated as WINNERS!!; these gladdened the hearts of many needy children at Christmas time; my sincere thanks to Ingrid Cupido and her team for sterling work done in this organisation and also a huge ‘bouquet’ to the official competition sponsors, Shoprite Checkers
later on in the year a prizegiving luncheon for the senior citizens was held to which I was invited and where many of the entries were displayed …
