KIKUYU:

KIKUYU GRASS IS SUITABLE FOR THE SUNNIER SIDE OF YOUR GARDEN (MORE THAN 60% SUN PER DAY). THIS IS A VERY STRONG TYPE OF GRASS THAT WILL WITHSTAND HIGH TRAFFIC AND DOESN’T NEED A LOT OF MAINTENANCE PROVIDED IT GETS A LOT OF WATER AND FERTILIZER (ABOUT 4 TIMES A YEAR) TO MAINTAIN ITS QUALITY.

PLANTING:

  1. LOOSEN THE AREA WERE YOU WANT TO PLANT.
  2. RAKE IT LEVEL AND MAKE SURE THAT MOST OF THE WEEDS ARE OUT.
  3. PUT SOME FERTILIZER ON THE GROUND. (ENRICHED GARDEN SOIL CAN BE USED AS WELL)
  4. LAY THE GRASS DOWN SIDE BY SIDE AND MAKE SURE THAT IT DOESN’T OVERLAP. TRY TO DO IT THE SAME DAY AS THE GRASS ARRIVED.
  5. MAKE SURE THAT THE GRASS IS FIRMLY ON THE GROUND BY ROLLING OR STEPPING ON IT – JUST TO ENSURE GOOD CONTACT ON THE NEW GROUND.
  6. GIVE IT WATER IMMEDIATELY (SOAKING IT) AND THEN KEEP IT WET FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS. 6 - 8 TIMES PER DAY.
  7. AVOID EXCESSIVE WALKING ON THE GRASS UNTIL THE GRASS IS SETTLED.
  8. DON’T CUT THE LAWN TOO SOON AS YOU MIGHT LIFT THE GRASS IF IT HASN’T SETTLED INTO THE NEW GROUND.
  9. FOR LEVELLING USE A LAWN DRESSING BUT ONLY WHEN THE GRASS IS SETTLED.

MOWING YOUR LAWN:

  1. WHEN CUTTING YOUR LAWN MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT CUT MORE THAN A THIRD OF YOUR LAWN AT A TIME.
  2. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR LAWNMOWER’S BLADE’S ARE SHARP TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE GRASS.
  3. LEAVE THE CLIPPINGS ON THE LAWN AS IT IS A GOOD FERTILIZER.
  4. DON’T CUT THE LAWN TOO SHORT. IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE LAWN AND IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT CAN GET DISEASES.

LM (BEREA):

LM GRASS CAN BE PLANTED IN THE SEMI-SHADE AND SUNNY SIDE OF YOUR GARDEN BUT IS VERY SENSITIVE FOR FROST IF IT IS IN THE OPEN. LM GRASS GROWS ON TOP OF THE GROUND AND CANNOT BE CUT TOO SHORT. IF IT IS CUT TOO SHORT THE ROOTS ARE OPEN AND IT CAN GET DAMAGED EASILY. LM GRASS CANNOT WITHSTAND TOO MUCH TRAFFIC AND IS MUCH MORE SENSITIVE THAN THE KIKUYU.

PLANTING:
REFER PLANTING OF KIKUYU.

THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON OUR SIDE OF THE FENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
