Lenasia Amateur Swimming Academy (LASA) held it’s 23rd Annual General Meeting at the Lenasia Ext 3 Recreation Centre on 6 June 2009. The meeting was started with a minutes silence in honour of those who has passed on, which was followed by the Chairman Redowan Patels report. In his report the Chairman focused on achievements of 2008 which were the new floodlights at Ext 5 pools, appointment of a gala administrator, issuing of a package to new LASA members and the formation of sound base Level 0 swimmers. Looking at the year ahead Redowan mentioned that the club needed to increase its member base by hosting more campaigns at Trade Route Mall and Signet Terrace, upgrade swimming facilities and bring on new members to assist with time keeping and running of the club.
The Chairmans report was followed by Secretary Baboo Jairam’s report in which he complimented the team on the impressive awards ceremony and covered activities including membership, meetings, galas, competitions, performance, facilities, and recommendations for the coming season, which included enhancing the skills of coaches in compliance with standards stipulated by Swimming South Africa (SSA) and engaging the local council in improvement of the extension 5 facilities.
In his Coaches report, Head coach Faried Waja focused on the challenges of training new swimmers and how they improved as the season progressed and would like to see swimmers taking part in the winter champs. He also encouraged the level 0 swimmers to persevere and appealed that all swimmers and parents to attend galas. He also stated that coaching in the evening became a reality with the lights and extended thanks to his coaching and teaching team for doing a sterling job and concluded by thanking the executive for a wonderful awards evening.

Incoming Chairman Dr Yazeed Seedat thanked all those who attended and thanked the outgoing committee for the sterling work carried out during the previous season and said that he was looking forward to the season with commitment from all, citing that parent involvement is vital and all parents must attend galas and that the newly created parent liaison officer would be playing a key role in bridging the gap between swimmers, parents and the executive committee.
He also stressed that swimmers must progress to another level and we must dream in the same way like the Head Coach, Faried Waja, whose dream it is to produce an Olympian.
Looking ahead Dr Yazeed said that LASA needs to enhance the skills of all coaches and also needs to secure an indoor, heated facility within the next 3 to 5 years time. He said that one of the 1st initiatives of the 2009/2010 season will be to embark on a fundraiser to bolster the funds of the academy
