Breakthrough Addiction Recovery Centre uses a variety of FDA approved medication to reduce cravings and to protect patients from withdrawal symptoms as well as relapse prevention. Medications used include Vivitrol (Naltrexone injectable), Revia (non-addictive non-narcotic blocking agent, Naltrexone), as an anti-craving medication and for relapse prevention. Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist that binds to opioid receptors but does not trigger the brain’s pleasure response. If a patient does relapse and use opioid/alcohol while being treated with naltrexone, he or she will not be able to get chemically high. The patient won’t feel the euphoric effects of the drugs/alcohol, and will have wasted time and money on opiates/alcohol.
