Following his schooling and a year of ministry in music and drama with the Baptist ‘WOW’ teams, Murray studied Agriculture through Cedara Agricultural College and Technikon Pretoria. On completion of his studies Murray worked in agricultural research and training with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture.

In 2004, Murray left agriculture to begin studies in theology at the Baptist Theological College in Johannesburg. During this time, he met Brenda, who was working in the College’s administrative department, and in 2006 they where married. Murray graduated that same year and took up the position of pastor of the Ladysmith Baptist Church. He served in Ladysmith until 2010. Murray moved to Howick in April 2010 to serve as an Associate Pastor of the Howick Community Church.

Louis came to faith in Christ in 1959 at a youth camp which was held at the Union Bible Institute, Sweetwaters near Pietermaritzburg and was baptized as a believer at the Central Baptist Church. Due to changes in Government in South Africa, Louis and his wife Grace left Jubilee Mission Hospital, and in 1968 Louis commenced his career in the teaching profession in Pietermaritzburg.

Church Administrator » Howick Community Church

Brenda’s Responsibilities include the capturing of all accounting data into the different general ledgers, the reconciling and payment of creditors and many other administrative functions.Her responsibilities cover the following ministries. Chris and Brenda live in Howick and have been members of the Church for 17 years. Brenda became John’s administrative assistant as from then. The Church appointed John Aubrey as Administrator.

From there she moved to London but returned in 2001 to do a youth worker’s course with the Baptist Youth of South Africa. During her time here, she met her husband Christopher Checkley and has two sons, Darryn and Tyler. She joined the Howick Community in March 2001 as the 1-2-1 worker until the end of 2003. In 2004 Debbie became a secretary at the church alongside Brenda Strang.
