The Skills Development Levies Act , publicized in 1998, states that organizations with an annual payroll of R500 000 or more, need to pay a monthly levy to SARS, to the equivalent of 1% of the company payroll.
The act further states that an organization is entitled to a rebate or grant from this levy if the organization participates in the Skills Development Reporting and Planning process, to assist in closing the Skills Gaps in the industries.
