The Congress of the United States enacted the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) on August
21, 1996. This law impacts all areas of the health care industry and was designed to provide insurance portability, to
improve the efficiency of health care by standardizing the exchange of administrative and financial data, and to protect
the privacy, confidentiality and security of patients

health care information.

dards. HIPPA Security Standards compliancy is accomplished by ensuring systems, policies and procedures meet or
exceed all required and addressable implementation specifications. Interface and database connectivity is encrypted
and/or password protected and electronic access is limited to only those entities that have been authorized. Addition-
ally, MITEM has implemented SSL Digital Certificate Authentication with Blue Iris Products for a secured method of
accessing protected health information (PHI).
