Probe Corporation has further extended its auto-electrical expertise through the acquisition of Dynamax, a niche operator with strong manufacturing capability in starters, alternators, field coils, solenoids, regulators and drives.
Probe Corporation CEO, Frank Rovelli says, “This deal increases Probe’s expertise and capability in the automotive sector, taking our drive into rotating electrics another leap forward. As well as being importers, wholesalers and distributors of world class batteries, alternators and starters, our added value support includes repairs and remanufacturing. We are now the complete power package.”
This deal follows Probe’s acquisition of MED in 2014, the largest independent auto electrical wholesaler in Southern Africa, boasting a product range of over 8 000 items from top international brands. “Buying the MED business created has increased our exposure into the automotive segment, a natural extension of our previous focus on heavy duty American trucks with the Delco Remy brand. It has enabled Probe to grow its auto electrical offering and has established the company as a major rotating electrical wholesaler and distributor in Africa. The Dynamax acquisition further diversifies risk and enables us to venture into the export market.”
Rovelli explains that the Dynamax business is complementary to the starter and alternator business, as it specialises in repair kits, field coils and other specialised products with other engineering capability. “Dynamax adds a level of expertise in terms of knowledge of the automotive market and will particularly enable us to increase our local production and assembly in order to offer remanufactured products, spares and components. This enables us to offer a broad range of rotating electrics, with quality controlled assembly in South Africa.”
Probe is determined to remain the company of choice for spare shops, automotive fitment centres, truckers and fleet owners. “With Dynamax, MED and Probe we are positioned to take on the larger suppliers as we cover the full automotive electrical range – from repair kits to new products to remanufactured products,” says Rovelli. “We look forward to strong growth in the automotive electrical sector the year ahead.”
Probe is a leader in its field, with over fifty years of experience in distributing and providing aftermarket support for many international brands. The acquisitions of MED, Aristo Brands and Dynamax Auto Components have made the company a leader in rotating electrics in South Africa.
