Our operations are all based in South Africa – a country which currently contributes nearly 80% of global Platinum production. We run a vertically integrated operational structure – from mine to market: our Mining operations extract ore which our Process Division converts into refined PGMs, for delivery to our customers. Underpinning our core operations, our Shared Services functions provide consistent levels of support and infrastructure across the operations.

The location of both our operations are shown on the map below.

1. Mining - Marikana mining, Limpopo mining & Pandora Joint Venture

All our Mining operations are located in the Bushveld complex in South Africa. Our Marikana mining operations, on the Western Limb of the Bushveld, currently contribute around 92% of our annual production. Our Limpopo mine, which is currently on care & maintenance, is situated near Polokwane on the Bushveld’s Eastern Limb. At both our operations, we mine the Upper Group 2 (UG2) and Merensky PGM-bearing reefs. A key focus for our Mining operations is the drive towards mechanisation which, we believe, represents a safer, more cost efficient alternative to conventional mining.

2. Process Division

Once the ore is extracted from our mines, it is transferred to our Process Division which converts the ore into refined metal. Firstly, our concentrators crush the ore and transform it into a liquefied concentrate which is then sent to our smelting facilities which convert the concentrate into a metal-rich matte. This matte is transported to our Base Metal Refinery (BMR) which extracts the base metals, primarily copper and nickel. The final stage in the process is our Precious Metal Refinery (PMR) which produces refined PGMs.
