InkJet Printing: Printing directly onto an inkjet printable DVD-R provides the following advantages over traditional labels: Lower Cost: Generally, it is more affordable to buy printable inkjet media than to buy both media and labels. User-friendly: It is easier than placing labels on many discs, as most printers have easy-to-use disc alignment..
Silkscreen Printing: Screen printingis a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Now days machines handle most of the process, however the screens still get made by hand. Advantages of Screen printing is that almost any design in possible, from printing directly on the silver side of the disc you can have silver backgrounds. It is also possible for more accurate coloring with pantone colors for better branding options. The main drawback is that the screen itself is only a 300dpi or less screen, thus the screen effect can be seen close up. This type of printing is faster than Inkjet printing and is very commonly used on retail products, it is also not necessary to varnish these discs as the final products will be semi gloss.
