FSIB  (Fire Systems Inspection Bureau) is endorsed by the FDIA & GED to provide independent third-party inspections, certification, design and design verification of fire detection and gaseous fire protection systems regardless of who installs and maintains them.

Systems and products are inspected to SANS (South African National Standards) and in some special cases to NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) standards to verify if they have been designed, installed and maintained accordingly.

Detailed reports are provided following the inspections which assist building owners, property managers, risk managers, safety officers, installers, contractors, builders, architects and consulting engineers to ensure that these systems are compliant with local or international standards - whichever is most applicable.

ASIB’s (Automatic Sprinkler Inspection Bureau's) primary function is to inspect fixed automatic sprinkler installations with a view to issuing Clearance Certificates for those systems that have complied with the nominated standard of design.

Fire System Training

However, the FDIA has accredited training courses offered by Fire Systems Training, a private company providing training at all courses levels. Fire Detection courses are provided for beginners in the Fire Detection industry through to advanced detection and design courses. The FDIA does not provide direct training courses but supports accredited private training establishments.

It is to become a legal requirement for all technicians working in the fire detection and gaseous extinguishing industries to register with the SAQCC (South African Qualification and Certification Committee). All technicians must register at one of four levels of registration dependent on their job description.
