With the release of Interceptor® 3.0, customers are now able to choose between multiple deployment options to reduce the complexity of introducing new Steelhead® appliances into a data center cluster. Improved performance on traffic throughput to support higher data speeds, and intelligent RiOS-aware load balancing algorithms mean organizations can seamlessly scale their WAN optimization installations.

Performance boost

Each Interceptor appliance can support up to a million concurrent connections and up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth. The Interceptor is used to support Steelhead appliances in single or multiple cluster groups. Interceptor appliances can also be deployed using multiple in-path links, in series, or in parallel, so that they can be used in the same highly available and redundant configurations that Steelhead appliances can.

Improved peering algorithms for load balancing

Interceptor 3.0 takes into account the relative size of Steelhead appliances, as well as their degree of utilization (disk and memory pressure), to make the best load balancing decisions for connections between remote office and data center clustered Steelhead appliances.

Flexible deployment

Release 3.0 of the Interceptor appliance supports WCCP/PBR directly, which greatly simplifies configuration changes required on a router and eliminates the need to retrain network staff with a new deployment paradigm. The addition, removal, or upgrade of Steelhead appliances is also greatly simplified with deployment of the Interceptor.
