To help make your migration as smooth as possible, Network Migration Services have created a checklist to remind migrants about what documents need to be made available during your visa application process. Missing out on a document or procedure may delay or even prevent you from relocating to your destination of choice.

Documents that will be required include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Valid passport (ensure you have at least 2 years left on your passport)
  • Unabridged birth certificates (these are certificates that contain your parent’s full name and ID number in addition to yours)
  • Unabridged marriage certificate
  • Divorce papers (if applicable)
  • Adoption papers (if applicable)
  • Qualifications and academic transcripts
  • Police clearances (your consultant at Network Migration Services will advise you on when this needs to be applied for)
  • Military discharge papers (if applicable)
  • Current CV
  • Employment Reference Letters

Closer to the time of your permanent move overseas (when you have received written confirmation that your Visa has been approved), you need to also consider the following:

  • Quotes from removals companies and travel agents regarding flights
  • If you wish to relocate your pets, please let us know and we will put you in touch with pet relocation service providers (note: all pets need to be fully inoculated and have to serve a period in quarantine)
  • Request your medical files from your General Practitioner, Dentist and or Optician
  • Open an Australian/New Zealand/Canadian bank account
  • Request credit references from your bank, building society or any other lending agent
  • Identify temporary accommodation in case your house sells sooner than expected

With one month to go, you should set up a new address and mailing account and have all your mail forwarded to your new address. Pay attention to the following:

  • Double check shipping dates of goods and belongings to ensure that they are delivered to your new country.
  • Terminate or disconnect your newspaper delivery, telephone, electricity/gas, water, television licence, DSTV/SKY/M-Net
  • Remember to notify organisations of your change of address (post office, bank, South African Revenue Services, Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, Motor Licensing Department, Insurance Companies, stores where you hold accounts, Lawyers/Accountants and family members and friends)
