For Vetvalue the 2008 veterinary congress was an extremely successful event. As the second such congress attended by Vetvalue since our establishment as a family business in 2005, we were gratified by the positive interest that we received from the attendees, co-exhibitors and many of our existing clients who attended. As a relatively new wholesale pharmacy and general wholesaler in an industry that has long been characterized by very few dominant competitors, well directed communication and accurate profiling of our business is an essential element in extending our geographic wholesale footprint and extending our retail franchise business model that complements our clients’ business. We find that the congress s an ideally targeted event that meets all the requirements for effective communication. Exhibiting at the congress and responding to the interest, curiosity, concerns and feedback of the attendees confirmed that we were talking to the right audience at a point in time where there are compelling reasons in the industry for veterinary professionals to consider the implementation of modern purchasing and retailing business practices, firstly to protect their practices from competitive attrition and secondly to improve profitability through effective competition. Discount wholesaling and franchised retailing are proven concepts which, in combination, put our clients at an aggressive competitive advantage. This conclusion is not simply what we want to believe to be the case, but rather what our clients tell us in their feedback. In the expansion of our business from an urban client base to one that also aims to provide specific support to rural practices, we also found the congress to provide Vetvalue with an excellent contact point with rural veterinarians – to gauge their requirements and discuss our intentions with them. Finally, we were pleasantly surprised at the interest shown by attendees in the impending launch of our internet-based wholesaling and retailing platform – particularly participants’ interest in the manner in which the internet-based purchasing and sales platform would be harnessed in support of our franchise members’ practices and extending their sales reach without additional investment in stock. Development of Vetvalue’s internet platform is virtually complete and initial testing will commence shortly. We hope to launch in October 2008, so watch this space!
