Founding of the Company
Founded in 1948 in the Bavarian town of Rehau, the company found many opportunities to replace traditional materials with more effective, polymer-based materials. Initial products included shoe welting, garden hose and automotive components.The company established a North American division called Plasticana in 1959. Initial products sold were tires, tiles and handrails.REHAU South Africa was established as a sales office in Bloemfontein in 1967. Since then the company has grown in size and today boasts approximately 220 employees and 4 Sales Offices, Warehousing and Distribution facilities in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and East London. Coupled to the sales offices REHAU's state of the art manufacturing facility in the Eastern Cape produces complex polymer systems through technologies such as extrusion and injection molding, not only for the local and export automotive sector but for industrial products as well. The first Asia/Australia branch was opened in Bangkok in 1972, with its regional headquarters established in Singapore six years later. In 2000, company founder Helmut Wagner transferred control of the company to his sons. Jobst Wagner became President of the Board of Directors and Dr. Veit Wagner became Vice President. Development
