The 7 day Lake Malawi Island Hopper small group fly in safari visits Cape Maclear located on the southern lakeshore of Lake Malawi, Mumbo Island located within the Lake Malawi National Park and World Heritage Site with its tropical beaches, crystal clear waters and stunning mountain backdrop, and the remote and stunning Likoma island located in the northern part of the lake near Mozambique.
The group will meet their Fly in Safari Co. guide on the evening of day 1 of the tour in Lilongwe for a pre departure meeting. At the pre departure meeting the guide will discuss the tour and itinerary in detail with the group and answer any questions the clients may have. The tour departs from Lilongwe on a scenic light aircraft flight to a landing strip in Monkey Bay, southern Lake Malawi. From Monkey Bay the group will board a private luxury yacht and sail to Cape Maclear. The group will spend 2 days in Cape Maclear inclusive of activities (non motorised watersports). The lodge also has a variety of motorised watersports and a PADI dive centre available.
After two relaxing days in the lush surroundings of Cape Maclear get transferred to Mumbo Island by boat, approximately ten kilometres from Cape Maclear within the Lake Malawi National Park. Mumbo Island has never been populated and is still in its natural state. Explore the area of the lake around Mumbo Island on kayak and snorkelling excursions with optional scuba diving available. You will also have the opportunity to explore Mumbo Island on guided walks.
After two days of great snorkelling, kayaking and exploring Mumbo Island, we get transferred back to Cape Maclear by boat. From Cape Maclear the group gets transferred by road through the densely vegetated mountain pass of the Lake Malawi National Park to the Monkey Bay landing strip. From Monkey Bay a spectacular 300 kilometre scenic light aircraft flight will take you across Lake Malawi to the remote Likoma Island in the northern part of Lake Malawi. Likoma Islands’ most popular attractions are the 100 year old St. Peter’s Cathedral, walks on the island, snorkelling & diving, watersports and its secluded beaches.
We spend 2 days on Likoma Island and then board our final scenic light aircraft flight across Lake Malawi to Lilongwe where we conclude the tour and bid our guide and fellow travellers farewell.
