Over 2000 previously disadvantaged students had the opportunity to benefit from this program over a 4-year period. With the introduction of the new curriculum in 2006, Jurgens saw the tremendous need to up skill Educators. He is the only person in South Africa with primary, secondary as well as tertiary experience and who is involved in lecturing students, train teachers and also work with learners at the same time
Jurgens obtained a corporate sponsorship from Oracle SA and started Educator Development workshops during 2006 in Gauteng. A total of 45 workshops was offered in Gauteng for Grade 10–12 Mathematics educators. It is a brilliant initiative that changed the minds and perception of educators about Mathematics. The sponsorship was then extened to Mpumalanga and the Freestate in 2008. He did 12 workshops in Mpumalanga and 10 workshops in the Freestate. All FET Mathematics teachers in these provinces attended these workshops. Oracle also sponsored workshops in 2010 for Mathematics teachers of KZN. A total of 12 workshops of 4 days long were offered, one in every district of KZN.
He also conducted 100 training workshops during 2007 and 2008 in the other Provinces (approximately 6000 Educators attended these workshops). It has broadened their horizons and increased the skill which they need to teach the children of South Africa. Currently, he is still training Educators nationally on the Grade 10, 11 and 12 FET and GET syllabus and also on the optional topics of Paper 3. He is registersed with the Education Departments to train Mathematics educators in the following provinces:
Gauteng, Freestate, Mpumalanga, Noth West, Nothern Cape and Eastern Cape. He also train Educators for the National Education Department.
He also offers Winter and Spring shools to grade 12 learners to prepare them for their exams. He also obtained a sponsorship from a mine in Mpumalanga, to assist learners and teachers. This program is now in its second year. Teachers from the 3 schools receive training on a quaterly basis and Grade 10-12 learners recieve extra classes to help them to improve their results.
One learner from Tsiki Naledi Secondary school obtained 87% for Mathematics and 78% for Science in 2009 and started his studies in Engineering at Tukkies this year - 2010.
