For this cake the only direction I was given was that it needed to be black, white and incorporate a little silver. It is wonderful to be given the freedom to create from scratch and have the client trust your judgement.
I decided to represent the bride with a gorgeous sculpted 'wedding' shoe in black and white-the detail is piped on with black royal icing and the shoe dusted with pearl to give it a shimmer. For the groom, a black bow tie, casually resting next to the shoe and coming down the edge of the top layer.
I opted for a more relaxed, flowing feel, as I feel that although it is a very formal occasion, it needn't be stunted. The white fondant covering the cake, like the wedding dress, flowing down with 3 small pleats and a vintage edible 'brooch' .
A few black and white pearls strung around completed the look!
Contemporary with a dash of vintage and, ofcourse, completely original.
