When I got asked to do a teams logo design for the “HAPPY HOOKERS” club annual fishing competition, I had to say yes!!
These types of jobs ain’t going to make you rich but they sure will make you remember why you started in this industry and will allow you to be as free thinking as you once were in college. I mean they called the HAPPY HOOKERS! How can any logo designer not have fun with that?
When designing a more serious logo, there are 4 steps that will help you along.
1. A logo must be simple
A simple logo design allows for easy recognition and allows the logo to be memorable. Good logos feature something unexpected or unique.
2. A logo must be memorable
An effective logo design should be memorable and this is achieved by having a simple and appropriate logo.
3. A logo must be versatile
An effective logo should be able to work across a variety of mediums and applications. For this reason a logo should be designed in vector format, to ensure that it can be scaled to any size. A good test of a successful logo is whether it works in black.
4. A logo must be appropriate
A logo must be appropriate, for example if you are designing a logo for children’s toys store, it would be appropriate to use a childish font & color scheme. This would not be so appropriate for a law firm.
