Wellness is not a just the absence of disease – it is a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual, occupational, intellectual, and social-wellbeing. Work-wellness assessments correlate health (physical and psychological) and work-related outcomes (distress and eustress) with other important variables such as organisational climate and personal variables in order to achieve maximum management information whilst implementing one assessment (ensuring measuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness). Employee health and wellness is a state in which employees are energetic, motivated, healthy, productive, and committed to the organisation and its goals and which is maintained by an organisational culture and climate that is conductive to individual wellness. Work-wellness assessments strive to indicate the current state of work-related wellbeing of employees within the organisation in order to determine current organisational development areas on individual, working-team, departmental and organisational levels. It’s also a method to predict certain human capital risks within the organisation in order to develop interventions towards improving the overall work-related state in the organisation. Work-wellness assessments support a holistic model of organisational and employee health and wellness (dual-process of work-related wellbeing), measuring the positive and negative aspects of stress as well as the causes and impact thereof in defence of organisational development and effectiveness (evidence-practises, risk management, outcomes management, and impact analysis). It makes provision for the negative and positive aspects of work-related wellbeing in a fortigenic perspective. Negative aspects of work-related wellbeing includes distress states rooted in exhaustion and mental distance levels and resulting in stress-related ill health symptoms, while positive aspects of work-related wellbeing include work engagement and commitment rooted in vitality and work devotion. An energetic process link job demands, such as overload, role problems, and work-home interference, with ill-health via burnout; and a motivational process link job resources with organisational commitment via work engagement. Health and commitment have a direct link.Employees that experience high levels of work-related wellbeing are engaged in their work; are motivated to achieve work-related goals; have the mental and physical energy to complete tasks more effectively; and experience high commitment levels towards the organisation and its goals. Wellness assessments are a tool to determine the current levels of work-related well-being within an organisation in order to identify current human capital risks, improve the wellness states by means of developing custom-made interventions; identify overall organisational development areas and eliminate potential human capital risks.
