Rail Services Full and Empty Containers
Bidfreight Intermodal holds a contract with Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), the national rail supplier, to cater for import, export (unit / main) and domestic (countrywide) rail routes for both full and empty containers within Southern Africa.
The rail contract is controlled, managed and marketed by Bidfreight Intermodal while TFR executes the service as rail supplier, based on their extensive rail infrastructure.
Rates over countrywide (non-unit / main) routes are limited to stations where TFR have proper representation and/or handling facilities.
TFR Energy Levy
TFR applies an Energy Levy on a monthly basis based on escalations. The adjusted fuel price levy will become effective at midnight 7 days after the date on which the most recent diesel fuel price adjustment becomes effective.
TFR Conditions of Carriage/Trade Agreement
Transnet Limited trading as TFR does not guarantee to render a service within any specified period and will therefore not pay any demurrage and/or related claims. In view of the aforementioned Bidfreight Intermodal will not entertain any demurrage and/or related claims as Bidfreight Intermodal is bound by TFR's Conditions of Carriage.
Reference is made to the TFR Transport Agreement, which clearly stipulates that "TFR will endeavour as far as possible to adhere to the planned services so advised, however, this will be subject to the availability and is not a guarantee of this provision of services".
The above refers to important notes which are supplementary and additional to Bidfreight Intermodal's Standard Trading Conditions. All business is undertaken in accordance with Bidfreight Intermodal's Standard Trading Conditions, a copy of which is available on this web site.
Containerised hazardous cargo may be transported / railed under contract but various hazardous cargo surcharges are levied by TFR. These surcharges are applicable according to the IMCO class rating of the cargo over and above the applicable rail rate and will also apply to all miscellaneous charges. In light of the sensitivity and danger of transporting / railing hazardous cargo, proper declaration is required at all times. Hazardous cargo will be handled and conveyed at "owner's risk".
An original Trem Card is to be provided by the client for the full railage of any hazardous cargo. The Trem Card is to reflect the UN and IMCO number for the specific cargo as well as denote what safety measures need to be taken in the event of a spillage or accident. In the event of no Trem Card been made available, TFR will not accept the container for railage.
Containerised explosive cargo may be transported / railed under contract but various hazardous cargo surcharges are levied and strict conditions are imposed by TFR. These surcharges are applicable according to the IMCO explosive class rating of the cargo over and above the applicable rail rate and will also apply to all miscellaneous charges.
In light of the sensitivity and danger of transporting / railing explosive cargo it has to be properly declared at all times. As part of the special conditions applied by TFR they will provide a âblocking container for securityâ for explosive rail cargo at an additional cost. This extra security measure is non-negotiable. Explosive cargo will be handled and conveyed at "owner's risk".
Over mass containers can be accommodated on rail but all over mass containers will be handled and conveyed at âownerâs riskâ. Specific limitations as specified by TFR will apply.
Bidfreight Intermodal provides a full and empty containerised rail service to and/or from Overborder countries. W have appointed agents in these countries.
