BOLTS VS SETS
DIN 931 Hexagon Bolt is partially threaded. It is measured from underneath the head to the end of the bolt.
DIN 933 Hexagon Set Screw is a bolt that is fully threaded. It is measured from underneath the head to the end of the bolt.
T.P.I. and PITCH OF THREADS
T.P.I (Threads Per Inch)is used to measuring the thread if Imperial bolts while PITCH is used for measuring thread of Metric bolts.
T.P.I = 3 if the distance below = 1 inch
PITCH = distance from top of one thread to top of next thread
HOW TO CALCULATE THREAD LENGTH
To calculate thread length of any type of METRIC BOLT the following formula is used:
2x diameter +6 for up to 125mm long
2x diameter +12 for 125mm to 200mm long
2x diameter +25 for more than 200mm long
e.g. bolt M30 X 180 long = 30 x 2 + 12 = 72mm therefore standard thread length = 72mm
To calculate thread length of any type of IMPERIAL BOLT the following formula is used:
2x diameter + 1/4 for up to 6"
2x diameter + 1/2 for over 6"
e.g. imperial bolt 1/2" x 5" thread length = 2x 1/2" = 1 + 1/4 = 1.1/4
Therefore the standard thread length = 1.1/4
A wide variety of nuts are manufactured world wide.
The Hex nut is a full nut and is the standard nut used in the fastener industry. It is supplied in a variety of materials.
