Exhibition by TAGG (Textile Art Group Gauteng) 5 October - 2 November
The Art Place
Art Gallery, Fine Art, Art Exhibition
A new movement has swept the world where textile art has rightfully taken its place alongside traditional media such as painting and sculpture.
The “art quilt” is evolving, moving from its initial point of reference and departure – the quilt as bedcover – to claim its place as a dynamic abstract art on the walls of galleries and museums, as well as public buildings, corporate offices and private homes.
An “art quilt” is defined as a contemporary art work, exploring and expressing the whole range of visual arts: painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, assemblage, collage and sculpture, using fabric and fibre as the means of expression.
As an art form it is moving into very exciting territory and is finding its own voice.
The works display a unique range of styles, going beyond the decorative. They engage the viewer, they are thought provoking, they transcend the literal, exploring many issues. The pieces are diverse and dynamic.
The “art quilt” offers a feast for the eyes, food for the soul and peace for the spirit. This is an exhibition not to be missed
